Message

It is indeed heartening for me to address all of you through this message. As you all know, the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) is a premier cultural institution which came into being in the year 1958.

In 1963 it was granted the status of an Autonomous Corporate Body. After reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019, the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages was also reorganized and registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.

As an institution, the JKAACL has to foster and coordinate activities in the spheres of Letters and Languages, Visual and Plastic Arts, Music, Dance and Drama and of culture generally in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and to promote through them all the cultural unity of the Union Territory.

Institutionally, the Academy has been assigned the role of Sahitya Akademy (Akademi of Letters), Sangeet Natak Akademi (Akademi of Music, Dance and Drama) and Lalit Kala Akademi (Akademi of Arts) to provide integrated approach and inter-disciplinary cooperation and coordination between the three wings under one authority.

From promotion of literature and culture to development of arts, the JKAACL has left its mark in all spheres of culture. Now that the organization has embarked on a fresh journey as a Society, we are trying our best to tailor its various programmes and schemes to the requirements of the present day world.

The purpose of reinventing the institution is to make it more responsive to the needs and requirements of the target public as also the society at large. The vision of this Society is to promote cooperation among men of letters, artists, arts, literary and cultural organizations for holistic development of literature, art and culture in the Union Territory.

With the tireless efforts of all my colleagues and subordinates, I expect this vision to become a reality very soon.

Mr. Bharat Singh Manhas, JKAS.
